Students of All Ages - Welcome!

Hi, my name is Rob. I have been playing and enjoying the guitar for over 30 years.

Playing music has always been, and remains, one of the true pleasures of my life.

One of the greatest things about music, for me, is that no matter how long you've played--how much you've learned in lessons, played with others, or watched others play--there is always more to learn. Not a day goes by that I do not discover something new about the guitar, and that is a satisfying feeling.

I love learning, I love playing, and I also love teaching. Learning to play an instrument requires great dedication and patience. Likewise, being a good teacher requires great dedication and patience. I believe that I have both of these qualities, and am able to offer them to you as my student in assisting you in learning how to play the guitar, or to become a better guitarist if you already play.

Below you will find my pricing and a general list of topics that we may cover in our lessons together. If there is something in particular that you would like to play or learn, please contact me and we can discuss it further.

  • I am an instructor with The Music Academy - Asheville and conduct my lessons at their West Asheville location on Patton Ave.
  • Lessons are $100/month for weekly 30-minute lessons. Most months, this means four weekly lessons, but even in months where there are five weeks, the price is the same.
  • I also arrange group classes that span a couple of months for a flat fee. Please contact me to discuss upcoming group classes and pricing.
I am more than happy to meet with any potential students and/or parents free of charge to discuss your goals and my methods prior to you making any commitment to a lesson plan.

Lesson topics may include:
  • Well-rounded musicianship---playing in a group setting, learning songs by ear, improvisation
  • Making the best use of your practice time---learn how to practice more effectively
  • New chords, voicings, and inversions---seeing the neck as a unified whole
  • Strumming and finger-picking patterns
  • Positioning the guitar to allow for optimal left and right hand alignment
  • Sight reading---standard notation and tab
  • Music theory---learn how chords and scales are constructed and applied
  • ...and much more!
All lessons are tailored towards students' musical goals.
